dc.description.abstract | Evacuation is one of the most important issues in passenger ships carrying many passengers and crews. Therefore in 1999 the Maritime Safety Committee(MSC) of International Maritime Organization(IMO) developed MSC/Circ.909 on interim guidelines for a simplified evacuation analysis of ro-ro passenger ships to prevent loss of lives in maritime accidents. Thereafter the Committee at its eighty-third session in 2007, approved MSC/Circ.1238 on guidelines for evacuation analysis of new and existing passenger ships, including ro-ro passenger ships. In this paper, these guidelines for evacuation analysis are reviewed. In addition, annex 1 out of these guidelines is applied to an accommodation zone of the existing ro-ro passenger ship to evaluate evacuation performance and its practical use is also reviewed. | - |
