- Abstract
- In this paper, the required optimal acquisition depth of the survivor path decision unit of the Viterbi decoder is analyzed via the computer simulation under Gaussian channel and BPSK or QPSK modulation scheme assumptions when the general purpose signal processor is used to implement the Viterbi decoder of the punctured convolutional code. The punctured convolutional codes, whose mother code is a rate-1/2 convolutional code with memory from 2 to 8, are analyzed to acquire the design specification on the optimal acquisition depth. The analysis results show that the longer memory of mother code requires the longer acquisition depth and the higher code rate of punctured convolutional code from the same mother code requires the longer acquisition depth. The analysis results will be used as a implementation parameter of the software based punctured convolutional decoder using general purpose signal processor.
