- Abstract
- Risk based ship design is a new design concept, where risk assessment activities are integrated into design activities in order to enhance the safety of new concept ships from design stage. This paper describes the framework for risk based ship design, which is a collection of methodologies and techniques required to perform risk assessment activities efficiently at design stage. The framework is based on IMO (International Maritime Organisation) FSA (Formal Safety Assessment) process, and for each stage of the process, detailed process and necessary techniques are consolidated, keeping in mind that the goal is to employ risk assessment at design stage.
