- Abstract
- In this study, a closed ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) cycle of 50 kW pilot plant was simulated and analyzed to acquire the basic data for the optimal design of OTEC. The performance characteristics of cycle were simulated with respect to the variation of working fluid classification and seawater temperature. Evaporating capacity and cycle efficiency with 50 kW gross power showed similar values regardless of working fluid classification. In comparison of the working fluid mass flow rate, R-717 showed the lowest values due to the highest latent heat. The suction heat capacity of R-717 and R-410a indicated the higher values than that of other working fluids. Also, under 50 kW gross power, the cycle efficiency and evaporating capacity increased by increase of warm seawater temperature and decrease of cold seawater temperature. When warm seawater temperature is 30℃, the evaporating capacity decreased about 27.6% comparing with 26℃.
