According to the reinforcement plan of No. 3 berth of POSCO Gwangyang Works, 350,000 DWT class ore carrier is expected to navigate along the approach channel. Since this size of vessel has never visited this area, the water depth should be checked with tidal elevation and tidal current conditions taken into account. And it should be checked whether present fairway condition is enough for this vessel to navigate safely under severe environmental conditions. In this paper, the water depth along the expected path of the vessel has been analyzed considering tidal elevation, vessel moving speed, and ALLW water depth. And shiphandling simulation study has been carried out by local pilots to assess the traffic safety of this vessel.-
