dc.description.abstract | Recently, the international maritime sector is undergoing significant changes to meet emerging environmental regulations and advancements in decarbonization and digitalization, in particular, eco-ships and autonomous ships. With this global trend, the Korea government has announced 'Strategy for Fostering Advanced Maritime Mobilities' in November 2023. The strategy is aiming at the initiative of the Net-Zero goal in international shipping and the leadership in the digital transformation era. Aligned with this strategy, Korea Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries has launched a research project to develop four strategic future technologies and strengthen international cooperation with European countries. The four strategic technologies are ‘Advanced Insulation Technologies for LH2 Storage Tanks’, ‘Energy-Saving Onboard Carbon Capture System’, ‘Multiple-Remote Operation System for Advanced Maritime Mobility’, and ‘Floating Transshipment Terminal of Carbon-Neutral Fuel’. Within the framework of this research project, Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering (KRISO) is planning establishment of a research base in Europe to initiate the major technologies and the international standards in the field of advanced maritime mobilities. In addition, KRISO is preparing a program to build up young and professional human resources in collaboration with KIRD (Korea Institute of Human Resources Development in Science and Technology). This presentation introduces KRISO's plans for the establishment of KRISO Europe Office and the foster program of young and expert manpower in the field of advanced maritime mobilities. | - |
