dc.description.abstract | For the prediction on added resistance in irregular waves, linear superposition method could be utilized using added resistance coefficient and irregular wave spectrum. However, experiments and CFD simulations showed that added resistance in waves is not directly proportional to square of the wave height. The study investigates the effects of nonlinear wave height on added resistance in waves and vesselmotion, focusing on the relative wave elevation.Experimentalresults from the ocean engineering basin(OEB)of KRISO were used to analyze the importance of relative wave elevation on added resistance, and the effects of nonlinear wave height were investigated based on the wave slope at the bow. The paper provides insights into the limitations of the linear superposition method for predicting added resistance in irregular waves and highlights the importance of considering the effects of nonlinear wave height on added resistance in waves. | - |
