dc.description.abstract | The roll-on/roll-off power supply system is a new concept of electric-powered car ferries that is being developed by Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering (KRISO). While the new concept has significant advantages to reduce charging time and improve fire safety, the hazards of the new system should be analyzed to prevent any major accidents. The main objective of this study is to analyze hazards of the roll-on/roll-off power supply system, and for this purpose, we applied System-Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA) to the system that is a relatively new hazard analysis method. As a result of the analysis, we defined three losses and six system-level hazards of the system, established control structure including two controllers and two actuators that interact with the vessel, and identified 28 unsafe control actions (UCAs) that can lead to the loss of the system. After comparing the results with HAZID, we concluded that complementary use of various methods is recommended for thorough hazard analysis of the system. | - |
