□ The Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering (KRISO led by President Booki Kim) announced that the "International Symposium for the Realization of a Carbon Neural Society in the Ocean" would be held at BEXCO in Busan on October 12.

□ This symposium was organized by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and hosted by the Embassy of Denmark in Korea as a venue where Korea's approach to realizing a carbon-neutral society in the ocean was introduced and discussed. This event will be attended by Sang-geun Song, Vice Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, Einar Jensen, Ambassador of Denmark to Korea, and other excellencies, as well as major domestic and international businesses, including Maersk and Ørsted, companies from Denmark, a leading player in offshore renewable energy, and Hyundai Heavy Industries, and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering. This will be an excellent venue for intensive and productive discussion for the realization of a carbon-neutral society in the ocean based on the Industry-University-Institute network.

□ This symposium was held under the theme of the "realization of a carbon-neutral society in the ocean," with keynote speeches provided by Einar Jensen, Ambassador of Denmark to Korea, Jorg Weberndorfer, Minister Counsellor at EU Delegation to Korea, and Won-dong Cho, Advisor of Carbon Korea. More detailed discussion on offshore carbon neutrality then followed with three separate sessions in which individuals from the Industry-University-Institute network presented what they had learned and discussed major issues.

□ In the first session under the title of "Our commitment to a carbon-neutral society in the ocean," KRISO and the Korea Institute of Energy Technology (KENTECH) made presentations on the current status of Korea's offshore carbon neutrality technology development.

□ In the second session under the title of "A Danish example to contribute to carbon neutral society in the ocean," Danish companies, including Maersk, Ørsted, Cowi, and COP, presented their respective projects concerning offshore carbon neutrality and future plans as well.

□ In the final session under the title of "Cooperation system between countries for coexistence build," Domestic shipbuilders, including Hyundai Heavy Industries and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, and Danish companies presented their major projects currently underway and technologies and shared ideas and insights to promote cooperation between the two countries.

□ Meanwhile, KRISO has also been making a wide range of efforts to realize a carbon-neutral society in the ocean, including by establishing KRISO's 2050 technological strategy for offshore carbon neutrality, securing key technologies for carbon neutrality, laying the groundwork for their commercialization, and responding to the standardized IMO regulations.

□ This symposium also provided a valuable opportunity to gain insights into best overseas practices and cases for offshore carbon neutrality while seeking strategies to promote state-to-state cooperation and provide support to private enterprises, thus spurring the realization of a carbon-neutral society in the ocean.

□ Booki Kim, the President of KRISO, said, "This symposium will be a great venue for all of us from industry, academia, and research sector to put our heads together to find a way toward a carbon-neutral society in the ocean. I sincerely hope that this event will contribute to guiding Korea in its journey toward becoming a leading player in achieving offshore carbon neutrality while directing the international community toward the same goal."

□ This symposium wasopen to anyone who wants to attend. Please sign up for it by contacting KRISO's Offshore Plant Industry Support Center at 055-639-2428/2401.
